The most useful approach to use in critically analyzing The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway is the fisherman as Artist. He had not caught the big fish for many days. Ordinary fishermen change their mind and decide to catch many fish whatever the size to live. However, the old man did not change his mind to catch the big fish because his fishing device was for big fish. He was proud of his technique and he trust himself to get big fish. I think it is the artist of the fishing.
